Concert Event: Iron Maiden Bogota, Colombia February 28th

Iron Maiden had a concert on Feb 28th, 2008, here in Bogota, Colombia. It was amazing, outstanding and it was worth the $120.000 pesos (60$ USD more or less) it cost for the ticket. But before we start talking about the concert lets see a preview of how the week passed before this great concert.

A week before the concert, people who were waiting for the concert, started to build camp sites outside the Simon Bolivar Park here in Bogota at the 68 Avenue, many started on Sunday, others are rumored that camp since Friday February 22nd (almost 7 days). The love for Iron Maiden made them suffer of low temperatures, uncomfortable grounds and bathrooms but after 6 days of camping the waiting was over. It was amazing to see how many people got into this idea of camping; tents laying down one by one waiting for the opening, many board games for distraction (well this guys really came prepared), food stands just a couple of feet near, one or two or three… never mind a lot of beer and some liquor.

Nothing serious happen over the week except I heard they had to get rid of the whole camp the day before the concert, that really suck and I think it shouldn’t had been like that. Anyway let’s got to the concert!

There were a lot of people waiting; seriously, the line for entry was like surrounding the whole park, considering the park is REALLY HUGE, it rain a lot that day and people got soaked with water not to mention the cold it was doing. They open doors about 4 pm, police and other security members made presence in the event, there was some fights and trouble with some people with the police but those are isolated cases nothing serious. The Security was thigh and police were very strict controlling and checking for anything, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, bottles, weapons, umbrellas, you name it. Crossing the first line of security was really a pain, had to wait a lot until we got into a tiny corridor which was flooded with trash, mud and I don’t want to think…, but after that an open street came up and many of us started running to the next “checkpoint”.

Police check our pockets and everything and later let us pass to the concert grounds, it was full, getting fill up with people, from the distance it looked like a whole bunch of ants. After the running, friends reunited and finding a good spot for watching the concert we waited for hours, Bruce Dickinson’s daughter was between the opening bands of the concert, in my personal opinion, I didn’t like it, songs didn’t sound well and the kind of music they played (*sigh). After the opening bands finished they’re performance we saw how a police helicopter flew over us many times, it only mean something, Iron Maiden was looking at the crowd several feet on the air, it was amazing.

After an hour or so the lights turn off and everything become dark, the concert was about to start, suddenly voices were heard from the distance, the crowd scream and call for the band and after a few seconds in the dark, Iron Maiden appear in scene, it was exciting and amazing, everyone was thrill with their performance not to mention the Colombian flag was post there several times, it was awesome!

This is the list of songs they played during the concert:

1 Intro
2 Video Vuelo ( Transylvania )
3 Aces High
4 2 Minutes to Midnight

Concert pass very well, we enjoy it every second, no fights happened during the event unfortunately the concert’s video screens didn’t work has we thought but whatever. It was outstanding we really like it and we appreciated the last comment from Bruce Dickinson, they actually want to come back for another concert! Wow that really excited us and we would love having Iron Maiden here in concert again, hopefully in a bigger space.
